No Plastic Bags Please

They’ve been working on Hamilton Park since last April and they’ve only now gotten around to bagging up the leaves? That’s just a wise-ass comment on my part, expressing my frustration from the ongoing closure of the park. City fathers made the decision, plans approved, selected a contractor and it’s not like I have any expertise to criticize. The bags through the fence make a nifty image. Paper bags as big as the plastic leaf bags, big as anything Glad or Hefty or America’s Choice—formerly Pathmark—manufactures in 39 gallon plastic. Our fair city deems it necessary to print important yet still polite messages on the bags – No Plastic Bags Please ... Thank You For Your Cooperation In Helping to Make Jersey City A Better Environment For All Residents. Perhaps we could all take a lesson in consideration from the Jersey City Incinerator Authority. Isn’t that what separates us from animals and plant life—we’re not just biodegradable but have the capacity for politeness. With gladness I accept the JICA thanks for my cooperation. I believe it to be sincere.
