Cold Spring Basketball

The fervor among residents in the Hamilton Park neighborhood over this basketball court has seemed to die down over the years. The objection was that kids from outside the neighborhood were using the court. You could usually tell the outsiders by their youth, the color of their skin and un-yuppie like appearance. The objection had nothing to do with prejudice, of course! Hamilton Park is a public park and is owned by everybody and not the property of home and condo owners who live near it—or the dog owners who break the law by letting their pets run unleashed in the park. But, that seems to be an argument of the past. Spring is having trouble taking hold this year, and on this chilly early April, late-afternoon day, a trio of kids are seen. In spite of the gelid weather, they are determined to play. It’s not only fun to see folks having fun, it’s heart warming. Remember those days we used to play two-on-one in Hamilton Park? Remember those days we used to walk in Hamilton Park and watch the kids play two-on-one even in the cold early Spring?
